Simulated tower crane rescue is at UTSA Main Campus May 19

The San Antonio Fire Department, Joeris Construction and the UT System Office of Facilities Planning and Construction will perform a simulation of a tower crane rescue at the North Paseo Building project site on the UTSA Main Campus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 19.  SAFD fire fighters will portray crane operators requiring rescue, and the rescue will be executed in real time.

The rescue simulation will prepare the City of San Antonio emergency personnel for appropriately responding to similar emergencies in Greater San Antonio.  The presence of a tower crane on the UTSA Main Campus gives the SAFD the unique opportunity to stage an event like this – never before done in San Antonio – and video record it for the benefit of fire fighter training. Representative of other station houses (and nearby municipalities) will be onsite to witness the event.
